Removing the worst users avoids the broken window effect. When you get rid of the worst actors, everyone else raises their standards. What's left is a space that's actually pleasant to be in.
A subscription based model
$10 a month
The subscription pays for moderation and running the site. It also makes it much harder for banned users to return.Creating 100 spambot accounts costs $1,000. Getting banned and starting over? Even more expensive. It's very costly to churn out spambots when each one requires a paid account.
